It’s February! Black History Month. Congenital Heart Defect Month. St. Valentine. Presidents Day. Ash Wednesday. Am I missing any?
I know some folks don’t like to emphasize certain populations or ‘special days’ each month but I’m a fan. I’ve learned so much from these particular highlights and I appreciate the opportunity to better understand our history, our varied communities, and our unique journeys.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing about Jesus’s command to love our neighbors. I’ll be exploring questions like, “What did Jesus mean when He said that? Who are our neighbors? What might this look like in 2018?” I hope you’ll join the conversation. Your perspective matters and we have much to gain from listening to each other.
To kick off this month, I’m highlighting the organization http://yoocanfind.com, the #1 collaborative community for those with disabilities. A few months ago, Yoocan asked me to share about our son, Sam, who has Down syndrome. I was finally able to carve out the time to submit a *brief* version of our story.
You can read it here: https://yoocanfind.com/Story/1313/our-million-dollar-family.
Even better, you can click on the first link above to sign up for the Yoocan newsletter and you can follow them on FB and IG. You’ll get to see pictures and learn from folks with disabilities from all around the globe. I believe they’ll inspire you but more than that, I hope they’ll remind you that when we take the time to hear from our fellow humans, when we choose to see the beauty in how God created them–no matter our differences–we’re taking important steps toward loving our neighbors.
Hope your weekend is the perfect mix of meaningful activity, rest, and connection.
And let’s remember, Punxsutawney Phil is likely WRONG. #byewinter.
